The Solidarity and Development Secretariat is the main fund-raising and development group of the La Salle Christian Brothers, which assists the Lasallian mission by providing financial support, technical assistance, and capacity building to fragile sectors of the Institute in their growth towards self-sufficiency. The Secretariat strives to help fulfill the goals of the Institute as expressed in the aspirations of its 45th General Chapter.
What we are
For legal, tactical and strategic reasons, the Secretariat consists of two entities which work together collaboratively on all projects:
- De La Salle Solidarietà Internazionale – ONLUS
- SECOLI [Servizio di Cooperazione Lasalliana Internazionale]
What we do
We assist the Institute’s areas in development (primarily Category 0 Districts) by requesting external funding to support Lasallian educational works, capital projects, program development, human capacity building, child and youth protection programs, formation initiatives, immigrant and refugee services, volunteerism, and other development projects as assigned by the Superior General and his Council. We also administrate internal institutional funding.
Where we work
Although the majority of our work is centered in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America, the Secretariat works collaboratively with all areas of the Institute, currently spanning approximately 80 countries around the world.
While mainly supporting our global educational apostolate, we are largely involved in programs targeting children and youth at-risk. More recently, we are moving “beyond the borders” to other ministries which aid society’s poor, marginalized and underserved. Our inter-congregational efforts welcome the involvement of other religious groups.
